The Day After Valentines

I also happens to be my fathers birthday

For valentines my boyfriend brought me pink carnations and a box of chocolates and he also traveled 3 hours on a bus just to see me... swoon!

We had our valentines last Friday because we were both working valentines day :(

My Roomie M left out two heart shaped lollies for us :)

For dinner we had red wine

Lasaunga (bought not make because i didnt have the time after work)

And I made a delicious valentines sunday

all I needed was:

*waffle bowls

*chocolate ice cream

*slices strawberries

*and magic shell chocolate sauce

^ which hardens as soon as it touches something cold XD

And then we capped off the night with the notebook <3

Knitting it up at my friend Emily's as she works on a simple garter stitch scarf

The pattern for this scarf is a free from

The first band is seed stitch

Second band is drop stitch

then the third band is a little thinner then the first in seed stitch.

Repeat seed stitch and drop stitch sections to the end.

And finish the scarf with a wide band a seed stitch.

I decided to connect the end to make her scarf into a cowl because,

I didn't have enough yarn to get the length I wanted for a scarf.

The abnormal fear of dogs : Cynophobia

Some people fear dogs, and they take great pains to avoid them in their daily lives. This fear of canines is known as Cynophobia.Large, fierce dogs that seem aggressive may cause some people to develop a fear of all dogs, of any size or temperament. Fearsome canines such as pit bulls have been known to attack and kill humans and other animals. They can cause a terrified reaction in many people.

Anxiety In the presence of a canine, a Cynophobic person will display intense anxiety that may manifest itself in the form of physical symptoms.

Sick Stomach – A person with a fear of dogs may feel nauseous when a canine is present.
Rapid Heartbeat – Fear of dogs can trigger a rapid heartbeat that makes the sufferer feel confused and short of breath. The person may feel that they are in great danger, which causes their heartbeat to escalate rapidly.
Vertigo or Dizziness – Vertigo and/or dizziness can result from an encounter with a canine. The body goes into a fight-or-flee state, causing a full-scale panic attack. There is a possibility that the person might faint as a result of vertigo.
Terror – In people who have this phobia, fear becomes overblown, and the person may suffer from feelings of grave terror. Some people with Cynophobia fear for their lives when they around canines. Along with the fear of dying, the person may feel mentally unhinged, and unable to cope with their negative emotions.

There is this lady who lives on the 7th floor of my building.

Everytime she see's our dog ella she freaks out, hides in the corner of the elevator or leaves it all together.

If we are walking to get out side and she sees us coming she goes the other way.

Ella is a sweet heart who would never bit attack bark or jump on anyone.

She really makes me angry every time is see her. Ella has done nothing to her, her kids or her husband. Her freak outs scares my dog,And make Ella feel uneasy because she doesn't know what she did wrong to get such a reaction.

Cynophobia doesn't just effect the person conflicted with it but it stresses out every dog and dog owner from here to kingdom come.

That being said if a person is that scared of dogs they shouldn't be living in a building that allows people to keep dogs as pets.

Just watched to movie last night
And the first thing that hit me was not how stunning Julia was in her role...
But the artistry behind the lens.

I not only saw but was brought in the the three different worlds.
Italy,India and Bali
By the time they showed us India i had to know who the director of photography was for this movie.
My Roommate answered Robert Richardson.

That name seemed so very familiar to me but I didn't know how.
Then I went on imb and saw all the movies that had him on as director of photography.
Hugo,Eat Pray Love,Shudder Island, the aviator, The Good Shepard, Kill bill(1-2),The Horse Whisperer,Wag the Dog,
A Few Good Men, The Doors,Platoon.

The Director of Photography job is responsible for the look and feel of a piece on film.
is responsible for achieving artistic and technical decisions related to the image.
is responsible for capturing the film image as required by the script, under supervision of the director.

Required Skills

An in-depth knowledge of camera functions, lenses, lighting and other cinematography skills
An understanding of photographic composition and design
Creativity
Computer skills are necessary for many editing and other related tasks

Eat pray love had a similar feel to it visually as Wag the Dog but had more light captured and played with like The horse whisperer.

As an artist and am blown away when I see what one can do with light on film... it takes my breath away

Casting On

1. Make a slip-knot on one needle just like you learned at Girl Scout camp. Congratulations, this counts as your first stitch! If you are exhausted from the work, take a lemonade break. [see diagram 1 ]

2. Hold the slip-knotted needle in your left hand and hold the other needle in your right hand. Insert the point of the right hand needle from front to back into the slip-knot and under the left needle. [see diagram 2]

3. Without moving anything, situate your hands so both needles are being supported by the left hand. [see diagram 3]

4. With right hand, pick up the yarn that is connected to the ball of yarn. Use your index finger to bring the yarn under and then over the point of the right needle. [see diagram 4]

5. Holding the right needle with the right hand again, pull the loop you made on the right needle through the left needle stitch. [see diagram 5]

6. Pull the loop that you have made with the right needle onto the point of the left needle. Then slide out the right needle so the loop is now on the left needle. [see diagram 6]

7. Hooray, you cast on a stitch! You should now have 2 stitches casted on the left needle, like this: [see diagram 7]

8. Pull the yarn gently to tighten the stitch onto the needle. It should be snug like a bug, but not a bug that is too snug in a rug wearing Uggs.

9. Now, hold the needles in the right and left hands just as you did in the beginning. Insert the point of the right needle, from front to back, into the new stitch on the left needle and repeat steps 4-6 to cast on more stitches onto the left needle.

If you can't get the point of your needle into the stitch, you're pulling too tight. The number of stitches you cast on will show you an estimate of how wide your scarf will be, but keep in mind that the scarf will get a little wider once you start knitting. A normal number of stitches to cast on for a scarf is about 25. To count the number of stitches, just count the loops on the needle!

There's something almost magical about finding an old piece of furniture that no one wants, giving it a new touch of paint in a colour that's in and suddenly your have a piece that looks like a million bucks... and of course everyone want to know where you got it and were they can buy one for there house.

And then you have the furnature that is glued together form old pieces of wood or bits of signs.

so original that you will never have the same piece made twice. Up- cycling wood to save it form the dump and to stop us from cutting down more trees is a brilliant way to stay eco friendly

yet stylish.

that you A: were boring and B: had no creativity or imagination.. good thing i didn't dress up as any of those things this year.

I originally wanted to be a bar beer maiden...

But that changed to me going as a sugar Skull from the mexican day of thew dead :)

The whole costume cost me around 40$ after buying the clothing second hand , finding the face paint and hitting up the dollar store for some flowers and hair things.

The make up took me like 2 hours in the morning to do. but it was sooo worth it.

I spent my day working at the store scaring small children every time they would see me. then i had a night on the town with my friends at the apartment in Toronto :)

It was a good time.

First letter

So I received my first correspondance from my sponsor child Lucia from Mozambique today.

I learned that she lives near the capital city of Maputo,

which it near the bottom of Mozambique it's self.

It is Mozambique's largest city and its administrative, communications, and commercial center.
Most of the city's large Portuguese population left and its name was changed to Maputo
Capital and chief port of Mozambique on Maputo Bay
a city first named ‘Bay of the Lagoon
renamed after the Portuguese trader, Lourenço Marques
It was renamed in 1976 after the Maputo River

My favorite part of the letter was her picture and also the tracing of her hand in pink marker.

makes her seem closer some how.

So far i know that she wants to be a nurse,

She lives in a mud hut complete with straw grass roof,

and she want to know if there are a lot of schools where i live.

I hope to learn more about her and her country as I continue to sponsor her.

no longer do you need to store your stash in a clunky blue storage bin!

I personally like storing away my stash in a couple

dresser draws.

keeps my stash safe from ella-roo my 3 years old German Shepard.

If i had the wall space i would love to store each ball of fluff individually in its own

container as shown above.

I must say tho that i wine rack seems to be a better idea for yarn storage then,

lets see a book self :P

So I took it upon myself to make over the porch that me , tails and mel share.

Starting with tea lights,moving on to pinwheels, next a table and presently a straw rug.

All the porch needs is a wicker love seat,

and some metal wall art installments.

Yep that basically sums up the state of my floors right now.

A major sea rout from my broken air conditioner tearing apart my wooden floors ruining my clothing and art oh the art in naval style.

I swear my room looks like a bunch of third world horders had a party in it.

all I need is some mosquito and my room would be Sri Lanka

So on the weekend they came in an ripped out all of my ruined floor boards,

and once they had left,

the a/c started to leak again so i have a massive watering hole in my room.

I moved my bed to the dinning room and am sleeping next to the kitchen FYI.

Monday the a/c people came in and fixed the unit.

And Wednesday they are coming back to finally fix my floor so that i can reclaim my room back <3

I feel like a refugee displaced in my own apartment.

London bridge is burning down

Riots broke out in north London on Saturday night as a peaceful march to denounce the police shooting of a young man erupted into vandalism and looting.

Two police patrol cars, a van, a building and a double-decker bus were torched in the neighbourhood of Tottenham, as rioters clashed with officers in front of the local precinct and stores were looted and set ablaze.

The melee followed a peaceful march to the station to protest against the fatal shooting of Mark Duggan, 29, a father of four who was riding in a taxi on Thursday when he apparently became involved in a gunfight with police.

I know the new is saying that it is because it is in a area of racial tension,

because there is a population that lives there that has a history of violence and anti police nature.

But i believe its more then that.

what about the economy?

People cant find jobs.

There pissed at the govenment for not doing anything.

If you cant fight the government and you are the poor who do you back lash at?

the middle class.

because there is no one else to take your anger out on.

Its never about a guy getting shot.

that was just the broken lock on the door that opened and gave way to people expressing how they really feel.

I don't agree with there actions.

But i do believe that there is more then anti police and race issues contributing to these riots.

So I am almost done papering Oakville for the WWKIP DAY!

Now all I have to do is get a permit form the city so that i can host my event in there park.... I don't like going to city hall its like being called into the principles office BIG scary clean and official.

But ill do it ill do it for the world wide kip I will.

I've also Emailed local retirement home to let them know about the event for there residence.

Im excited about hosting, but im also a bit scared.

If its a success ill host it again next year.

p.s when I talked to my Student Union about it they wanted me to take photos and they wang to interview me later about the event and write up a story about it for the campus paper!!!!!

This year Im hosting Knit in the park day for Oakville!!!!
Have it set for the 12th of June,
Ive posted it on Facebook and on wwkipday.com
And I'm in the process of papering my campus and locate shop walls with fliers.
I hope alot of people show up and that i am able to help them learn the what of the loop if they are newbies. Im going to make a big poster for the park, im bringing my yarn, extra needles water bottles pop a lunch snakes and a chair and or blanket to sit on

So i have an appointment this week with a lady to visit her bunny if i like him and we get along her could be coming home with me which would be awesome sauce <3

I already have the cage and half the stuff i used for my guinea pigs can be reused as long as i clean them well. I originally wanted another piggy... but Ella our German Shepard wouldnt get along with something so small so i hope a bunny will be a good fit, fingers crossed!

Update: I got the bunny he was black and small and perfect.... until my German Shepard kept begging outside my bedroom door, wouldn't leave the bunny alone... i came home to he that she broke into my room opened the cage and "played" with poor poor diesel .
I fount him in the living room in a pile of my dogs toys.
I think she was hoping that i would think that the bunny was just another toy.
I decided not to talk to her for a full day and I buried the rabbit in a shoe box.
when i went back the next week to visit the grave some animal had dug up the entire shoe box..
the moral of this story.. DOGS AND BUNNY'S DO NOT MIX.

Maple Syrup Fest up in this Cow Town

Ah horse and buggy and vehicle town, depending on what day of the week it is. Just lift your nose, you'll know- My father

This weekend i spent it home with my siblings and my mom in cow town.

They had there big pancake maple syrup festival on Saturday and wouldn't let me miss it.

our little towns population grow an extra 80 thousand too line up in the cold to get a aunt Jamima pancake with some authentic local syrup.

My family decided to skip the lines and just make our own at home complete with sausage fruit and coffee :)

We battled the crowed to get at the stalls full of hand made crafts,toys, jewelery and the continuous line up of tasty treats such at maple syrup candies in the shape of maple leafs,apple fritters or pork pull on a bun

I picked up some pure syrup for my roommate.

My favorite stall was one done by Rare Funk which shows off crafts and art and clothing made my Canadian artisans.

they had buttons,t-shirts,dresses, accessories, jewelry,aprons,and lots of other cool and unique finds.

Sadly the was now yarn in sight but we did find maple burgers, maple sausage and popcorn mixed with marshmallows on a waffle cone :p

And I ran in to Dalton McGuinty went right up to him not knowing who his was but recognizingly his face, I stared at him weirdly he smiling awkwardly and said hello as he moved pass. I turned around to see him getting his picture taken only to realize that i had just bumped into the Premier of Ontario !

So when i woke up on my birthday i bused my self to the nearest denny's for a free grand slam brackfast. so delicious the only thing i had to pay for was the coffee :)

After class me and a lady from my program went over to walmart to look at the lap tops there and since i got the rest of my school funs in i was able to buy my first laptop for under 700$

4 G of memory and 320G of ram plus a # year warranty on the computer through walmart which protects it form damage and such i say score <3>

For supper my friend and my room mate came along with me to mandarin. Tails had never been to a mandarin buffet before and my turning 21 seemed like as good a time as any to break her in to there delicious ways.I really wanted to go out for Dim Sum but the resterant was only open in the morning into the afternoon.We got in and there were like were sorry to tell you that not all item will be on the buffet because we are serving dim sum as part of our celebration for the year of the rabbit.I was so happy and the cocktails there are sooo good.

Today i saw bif naked at school giving a talk on cancer it was inspiring and enlightening as she demystified the myths that surround cancer,how to relate to cancer patients and how she was happy that she didn't have a ostomy bag that she had to clean every 15 mintues.
I was great listening to her and how to keep things normal and positive and not to cover it up.

Christmas 2009! and all through my house decorating and baking are filling every surface wall and corner :P poor poor mouse :D

Ive been busy knitting my aussey roomie her scarf and baking cookies and I haven't even made a snow man yet but that coming soon believe you me. This year moneys been tight so we've been reusing decorations and making our own cards and keeping presents to $20 per person, which is fine because christmas shouldn't be all about the material it should be about spending time with family and friends and traditions that never fail,I hope to go ice skating, make a fort out of snow watch christmas specials via youtube and just relax :D

with butter cream icing!

Way less expensive then buying a cake

and im making 19 of them because he's going to be 19.

FUDGE CUPCAKES

1 3/4 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. all-purpose flour
4 squares semi-sweet chocolate

Combine sugar, flour and eggs. Blend, do not beat. Melt chocolate and butter in saucepan. Combine chocolate mixture, flour mixture and vanilla. Do not beat. Pour into paper lined muffin cups. Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. Yield: 2 dozen.

BUTTER CREAM FROSTING:

1 lb. Domino confectioners' sugar
1/4 lb. (1/2 c.) soft butter
1//8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3-4 tbsp. milk

Cream 1/3 sugar with butter and salt in large bowl. Blend extract, 2 tablespoons milk and remaining sugar into mixture. Gradually add remaining milk to bring frosting to desired consistency.

Canada Day!

So I decided to make cupcakes for my friends Canada day celebration.

I made 28 of them and it was load of fun making baking and decorating them:)

because their cute fun to make and at the end you can eat them!

My little brother graduated for grade 8 on the 24 at WMB then we brought him to his school for the dance that when till 25 to 11. he had a lot of fun I'm so proud of him.

Commencement Was on the 25 of June at 7pm at the Rec center, but I had to be there for 6pm to get my gown and hat and figure out the i had to shack with my right hand and receive with my left. I was long very long but important. the only thing i didn't like was the seat they had us sitting

because it caused my legs to cramp up the whole night. I was so excited by the time i got on stage to recieve my diploma that i forgot to flick the tassel on my hat to the other side to signify that i've crossed over and graduated. the teachers caught it on the way back to my seat and i switched it over. I got pictures taken with friends and teachers and family. We went out to celebrate at Kelsey's I got a pina colada and a piece of chocolate cake. We also had chicken wings and veggies. Not only did i graduate that night but I got to have my first legal drink in public and my hair got dyed and cut and styled earlier that day. So I am not long a blond but a chestnut.
